Meet Allison

Allison McDermott is a Southern ceramic artist whose work explores the intersection of functionality, memory, and imagination. Drawing inspiration from the natural world and playful storytelling, her forms evoke a sense of place and curiosity.

Whether crafting everyday vessels or intricate ornamental pieces, Allison brings an intuitive sensitivity to her surfaces—playing with color, texture, and shape to spark quiet moments of reflection and delight. Working primarily in cone 6 oxidation, Allison’s studio practice balances thoughtful experimentation with deep respect for traditional craft.

Her pieces often feature organic silhouettes and layered glazes that echo the landscapes and flora of the Southeast. At the heart of her work is a desire to create objects that feel both grounded and transporting—artifacts of both utility and imagination.

Allison received her Bachelor of Arts from Furman University and has since remained an active member of the ceramic community. Formerly part of Cone10 Studios, she is currently a member of Terrace Clay Studio in Charleston, South Carolina, where she continues to develop her body of work and connect with fellow artists.

Her work has been included in a range of national exhibitions, including Small Favors at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, PA (2025), Winter Warmers at Good Earth Pottery in Bellingham, WA (2024), Last Call VIII at Companion Gallery in Humboldt, TN (2023), KC Clay Guild Teabowl National in Kansas City, KS (2023), and Clay Mycology at Charlie Cummings Gallery in Gainesville, FL (2022).
